NEW YORK — It’s the end of an era for the cosmetics industry.
It’s a time when makeup artists are having to rethink their job and how they’re being paid.
And it’s a problem that could be coming to a head in 2018, when makeup advertising is expected to be a big part of the ads people see online.
As makeup artists get older and demand for their services drops, they’re going to be less likely to be available in large numbers, said Katherine Ruggiero, who runs the online makeup career website Makeup Artist Job Tracker.
“The beauty industry is about people who have disposable income, and they have the luxury of having a family and a lifestyle,” she said.
Ruggieros makeup career site has more than 8,500 job postings in the beauty industry, including the most sought-after roles: makeup artist, artist assistant, and stylist.
But she said most people don’t know that.
“It’s really hard to get people interested in the makeup industry because of the recession and the recessionary period.
So the beauty market is really small right now,” Ruggiers said.
While makeup artists have had to start finding jobs online, they often don’t have the time or the expertise to do it.
So they’re relying on freelancers to make up the work.
There are some things that are easier for a freelancer to do than makeup artists.
For example, makeup artists can be more creative than makeup artists, and makeup artists usually don’t work at a professional salon.
The makeup industry has also grown up in the digital age.
It used to be the art of photography and makeup, but now the beauty and beauty product industry is all digital.
And because of that, there’s a lot more competition for makeup artists and more opportunity for people to do makeup.
And that’s where things could get a little hairy.
For instance, Ruggiesto said, makeup artist jobs aren’t the most glamorous jobs in the industry, and even the most well-paid ones aren’t usually the best ones.
“You need to have a pretty wide range of skills,” she explained.
For example, she said a makeup artist can’t be a good fit for a beauty salon.
“They need to be able to get in touch with the client, know the client’s preferences, and work with them on the client-facing aspect of the makeup process.”
If a makeup ad’s job description calls for an artist to “work with clients to get the look they want,” that’s a good place to start.
But makeup artists also have to be professional.
“When you have a professional makeup artist in your makeup ad, it’s much easier to tell people you’re a professional artist because you know what you’re doing,” Rugieros said.
It’s also a problem because people aren’t hiring makeup artists for the job description.
“We’re seeing a lot of jobs that aren’t really advertised in any way,” Riggieros explained.
“So people are getting really discouraged by the lack of job openings.”
And that, Riggiesto explained, is hurting the makeup artists that she works with.
“I have a lot people who are really turned off by the idea of having to spend a lot money on makeup and not being able to wear makeup,” she added.
“And I have a few people who actually find it frustrating because they’re getting really tired of working on makeup that they’ve done.”
